Anger comes in four distinct forms: 1) “Boundaries,” which most people don’t even recognize as anger; 2) “Escalation,” in which ‘boundaries anxiety’ creates a state of increasing agitation; 3) “Flooding,” in which the brain becomes overloaded with cortisol, causing us to “lose it,” and 4) “Stuck-Looping,” in which we recycle our anger while expecting someone who isn’t going to change, to change. Each form of anger needs to be intervened with in its own unique way.
